GEG Holds Blessing Ceremony for 2025 Macao International Dragon Boat Races; Organizes Team Members to Participate for the 20th Consecutive Year

May 19, 2025 – Galaxy Entertainment Group (“GEG”) has been actively supporting the Macau SAR Government’s initiatives in sports development by proactively organizing and supporting various large-scale sports events and activities, and encouraging its team members to participate in different sports competitions and recreational activities aimed at promoting their mental and physical wellbeing. This year, in support of the Macau International Dragon Boat Races for the 20th consecutive year, GEG is organizing seven dragon boat teams formed by team members from its different properties to participate in the races. Recently, a blessing ceremony was held at the Nam Van Lake Nautical Centre to wish the GEG Dragon Boat teams a smooth race.
On the event day, Ms. Eileen Lui, Group Director of Human Resources and Administration of GEG; Mr. Richard Longhurst, Senior Director of Gaming of GEG; Mr. James Koratzopoulos, Executive Vice President of Hotel and MICE Operations of GEG; Mr. Joseph Tang, Executive Vice President of Operations of StarWorld Hotel; Ms. Hazel Wong, Executive Vice President of Retail of GEG; Mr. Danny Lao, Vice President of Human Resources and Administration of GEG and Chairperson of the GEG Staff Social Club, along with other executives, attended the ceremony. They bestowed good luck on the teams and performed traditional rituals such as cleansing and eye-dotting the GEG dragon boats: Galaxy Stars, Galaxy Pearl, Galaxy Universe, Galaxy Glamour, Galaxy Phoenix, Galaxy Elegance, and the new boat, Galaxy Pioneer. Additionally, the executives also officiated the ceremonial cutting of the roasted pigs and distributed red packets to the GEG Dragon Boat team members, wishing the teams exceptional performance and success in this year’s races.
Mr. Tyson Hoi, Captain of the GEG Dragon Boat Team, said, “We sincerely thank the company for the unwavering support, allowing us to maintain consistent and professional training. This year marks the 20th consecutive year that we represent GEG in the races, and with the addition of our seventh dragon boat, ‘Galaxy Pioneer’, it holds even greater meaning. As always, we will uphold our team spirit and strive for excellence through unity and strength.”
GEG actively encourages its team members to participate in various sports activities to promote work-life balance and to improve their physical health while fostering connection with different sectors of the community. Through the GEG Staff Social Club, multiple sports teams have been set up, including the Dragon Boat Team, Soccer Team, Basketball Team, Table Tennis Team, Badminton Team, Bowling Team, Volleyball Team and Runner’s Club, encouraging team members to participate in sports competitions and activities. Additionally, GEG has been supporting Macau’s sports development through hosting various large-scale international sports events, including serving as one of the organizers of the “ITTF Men’s and Women’s World Cup Macao Presented by Galaxy Entertainment Group” held at the Galaxy Arena for two consecutive years; supporting the “Galaxy Entertainment Macao International Marathon” for 21 consecutive years and being one of its organizers for two consecutive years since 2023; organizing the “WTT Champions Macao Presented by Galaxy Entertainment Group” for five times and serving as one of its major organizers for two consecutive years since 2023; and hosting the globally renowned UFC FIGHT NIGHT MACAU last year at the Galaxy Arena for the first time, marking its return to Macau after a decade. These underscored GEG’s ongoing commitment to contribute to Macau’s development as a “City of Sports”.
